I'm looking for an AMF framework for my company's Flex projects. Looking back at the change log I've noticed you used to have annual releases up till 2008 then it stopped. Now 2 years down the line I've not seen any updates posted on upcoming new versions, compared to .NET and other projects that are now on v4.0 and beyond.

Are there anymore releases planned? Have you stopped supporting PHP?

No, we still support it. The .NET and Java versions get the priority because we have customers there who are willing to pay money for it. The PHP product is more for fun and we'll get to it in due course, hopefully sooner than later. However, if you'd like to help out and contribute to it, you're more than welcome. Would you like to do it? (for free? :) )

If I had the time, I would. :)

Thanks for the clarification. I look forward to the next release.

Mark

I don't know if I have the time or not but I'm willing to help.

If you could send me the list of things that need to be done I'll take a look and tackle some of them.

Best Regards

Hi. I've been using Weborb for PHP for about 2 years now. I've used it with Flex3/Cairngorm projects and Flex4/Mate projects. It's a great product, but lately I'm concerned about the lack of maintenance in the project. Weborb makes several PHP calls that have been deprecated, and no release since June 2009... it's been over a year and a half now.

I don't want to give up on using Weborb, but is there anything new coming? Are there any developers still working on it? We see a lot of updates updates lately for Java and other backends, is anything on the way for PHP?

Hi,

Please do not give up on using WebORB. The PHP is just as important for us as the other ones even though the level of activity is not as high. The biggest challenge has been figuring out the monetization strategy for the product. As a small company, who relies on paying customers and not some fat VCs, we have to keep the balance between the products that help us pay the bills and everything else. At this point, there is no monetization in WebORB for PHP, hence it falls into the "everything else" category. However, that is going to change. Here's what we're working on:

1. WebORB for PHP Booster - native module enabling ultra fast serialization/deserialization
2. Documentation - part of the doc will be offered for free, full doc for a small fee
3. Cloud-based deployment - single-click product deployment into the cloud with hourly-based billing

With these initiatives in place, it will let us position WebORB for PHP differently and get a revenue stream to continue evolving and improving the product.

Hope this helps. If you have any comments or questions, I'd love to hear them.

Regards,
Mark

Do you have any e.t.a. on the next release? The documentation would be great. I've started using WebORB about 2 months ago and love it, but a documentation on all the abilities would be great.

As a flex n00b i'm not all that familure with all the possebilites with WebORB or how to use it correctly.
