What This Integration Enables

The Bitly connector lets agents create and organize short links and read their performance. Agents shorten long URLs, create fully configured Bitlinks with titles, tags, and deep links, retrieve and update existing links, and expand a Bitlink back to its destination. They read click totals, time series, country, and referrer breakdowns, generate QR codes that route to tracked Bitlinks, and inspect the groups and organizations that scope everything. The connector supplies the create and read actions; the surrounding flow decides which branded link ships and which report gets sent.

Without FlowRunner

Links shortened one at a time Someone pastes each URL into Bitly by hand before publishing
Naming drifts Titles and tags get set inconsistently, so reporting is hard to read
Click data pulled manually Performance numbers get copied out of the dashboard link by link

With FlowRunner

Links shortened in the flow The agent shortens every approved URL on the branded domain automatically
Naming stays consistent Titles and tags follow the campaign convention on every link
Click data assembled on demand Clicks summary, country, and referrer breakdowns feed reports directly

Use Case Scenarios

Campaign Link Provisioning

When a marketing asset is approved, the agent reads its destination URL, calls Shorten Link to create a Bitlink on the branded domain, and sets the title and tags to match the campaign convention. It confirms the Bitlink resolves correctly, then posts the short link to the campaign channel. The routine links flow through provisioning without anyone pasting URLs by hand.

Performance Reporting

On a schedule, the agent calls Get Clicks Summary for a set of key Bitlinks, then pulls Get Clicks by Country and Get Clicks by Referrer for the top performers. It assembles the numbers into a weekly performance report and delivers it to the channel, so the team sees which links and which channels are driving traffic without opening the dashboard.

QR Code for Print

For a printed piece, the agent creates a Bitlink for the destination, then calls Create QR Code to generate a scannable image that routes through the tracked link. Because the QR code will appear on physical material that cannot be edited after it prints, the agent stops and routes the branded link and its QR image to a person for a final check before the file goes to the printer.

Human-in-Loop Highlight

Shortening a link inside a workflow is routine. Putting a branded link on public material is not, because a wrong destination on a press release or a printed QR code cannot be recalled. This is [human-in-the-loop](/concepts/human-in-the-loop/) at the boundary between generating a link and publishing it: the agent pauses, assembles the branded short link, its destination, and its title and tags, and routes to a person through their preferred channel before anything public ships. The message is specific: "This QR code points bit.ly/spring-launch to the new pricing page and is headed to the print file. Approve it, or send it back?" The agent handles the shortening, the tagging, and the analytics; a person owns the link that the outside world sees.

Links

6
  • Shorten Link Shorten a long URL into a Bitlink in a single call. Returns the Bitlink id and full short link. If the URL was already shortened in the group, Bitly returns the existing Bitlink.
  • Create Bitlink Create a fully configured Bitlink from a long URL, with a title, tags, and mobile deep links so you can organize and route the link at creation time.
  • Get Bitlink Retrieve the full details of an existing Bitlink, including its long URL, title, tags, archived state, and creation time.
  • Update Bitlink Update an existing Bitlink title, tags, or archived state. Only the fields you provide change; supplied tags replace the full tag list.
  • Expand Bitlink Expand a Bitlink back to its original long URL without requiring group scopes.
  • List Bitlinks by Group List the Bitlinks belonging to a group, most recent first, with pagination and optional filtering by search term, tags, and archived state.

Metrics

4
  • Get Clicks Summary Return the total number of clicks for a Bitlink over a time range, as a single count rather than a time series.
  • Get Clicks Return a time series of click counts for a Bitlink, one data point per time unit, for charting clicks over time.
  • Get Clicks by Country Return click counts for a Bitlink broken down by the country where each click originated.
  • Get Clicks by Referrer Return click counts for a Bitlink broken down by referring source, such as direct, facebook.com, or email.

QR Codes

1
  • Create QR Code Generate a QR code image for an existing Bitlink and save it to FlowRunner file storage, returning a downloadable URL. Scans of the code are tracked as clicks.

Organization

4
  • List Groups List the groups available to the account. Groups scope Bitlinks, campaigns, and permissions.
  • Get Group Retrieve the details of a single group by its GUID, including name, organization, and role.
  • Get Organizations List the organizations the account belongs to. An organization is the top-level container for groups, users, and billing.
  • Get User Return the profile of the authenticated Bitly user, including name, email, and default group GUID. Useful as a quick connection check.
