What This Integration Enables

An agent can send notifications, alerts, and reminders by SMS, and reach recipients over WhatsApp, MMS, Messenger, and Viber through the Messages API from a single action. It can add two-factor authentication and one-time passcodes with Verify v2, validate and enrich phone numbers with Number Insight, and monitor account balance and owned virtual numbers. Send SMS uses the legacy SMS API for straightforward text, while Send Message (Multichannel) covers the channels that need more than plain SMS.

Without FlowRunner

One channel, one tool Reaching customers on WhatsApp means a separate integration
Numbers sent blind Messages go to numbers nobody validated or enriched
Verification bolted on Two-factor codes are handled through a disconnected side flow

With FlowRunner

One endpoint, many channels SMS, WhatsApp, MMS, Messenger, and Viber run from one action
Enriched before send Number Insight validates and enriches numbers first
Verification in flow Start and Check Verification run inside the workflow

Use Case Scenarios

Two-factor gate on a sensitive action

A workflow needs to confirm a user owns a phone number before a sensitive action proceeds. The agent calls Start Verification to deliver a one-time code over SMS, voice, email, or WhatsApp, then Check Verification to validate the code the user enters. On success the workflow continues; on failure it stops. The verification runs autonomously because a wrong code simply fails.

Enriched number validation

A submitted phone number needs checking before it enters a system of record. The agent runs Number Insight Standard to validate the number and return its carrier, line type, and portability status. Numbers that come back as invalid or the wrong line type are set aside rather than saved as good data.

WhatsApp segment message with a gate

A team wants to send a service update to a segment of customers over WhatsApp. The agent assembles the segment and prepares the message, then reaches the human-in-the-loop step because a branded WhatsApp send reaches many customers on a channel they associate with the company. A person approves the audience and copy before the agent sends.

Human-in-Loop Highlight

A WhatsApp message from a business account carries the company's brand into a channel customers treat as personal, and a segment send reaches all of them at once. Before the agent delivers a Send Message (Multichannel) over WhatsApp to a customer segment, it pauses and routes the decision to an operator: "Ready to send this WhatsApp message to the 520-customer renewals segment. Approve the audience and copy, or hold?" This is FlowRunner's human-in-the-loop pattern, where the agent stops on its own, shows the audience and the message, and resumes when the human answers. A single transactional SMS or one verification code sends without interruption. A branded message to a customer segment gets a human decision first.

Agent Capabilities

9 actions

Messaging

2
  • Send SMS Sends a plain SMS through the legacy Vonage SMS API, with credentials in the request body and a per-recipient status where zero means success. Used for straightforward text messaging.
  • Send Message (Multichannel) Sends a message over the Messages API, which delivers over SMS, WhatsApp, MMS, Messenger, or Viber from a single endpoint and returns a message UUID for tracking. Used when a workflow needs WhatsApp or another channel beyond plain SMS.

Verify

3
  • Start Verification Starts a Verify v2 two-factor request, delivering a one-time code over SMS, voice, email, or WhatsApp and returning a request ID. Used to begin a phone-verification step.
  • Check Verification Checks a code the user entered against a Verify v2 request using its request ID, returning a completed status on success. Used to complete a verification.
  • Cancel Verification Cancels an in-progress Verify v2 request so no further codes are sent, using its request ID. Used to abort a verification the flow no longer needs.

Number Insight

2
  • Number Insight (Basic) Performs a basic lookup, returning the number formatted internationally and nationally along with country data. Used for a synchronous format and country check.
  • Number Insight (Standard) Performs a standard lookup, adding current and original carrier, line type, portability, and roaming data where available. Used to validate and enrich a number more deeply, and it incurs a charge.

Numbers

1
  • List Owned Numbers Lists the virtual numbers owned by the account, each with its country, type, capabilities, and configured settings, with paging and pattern filtering. Used to audit owned numbers.

Account

1
  • Get Balance Retrieves the account balance in euros and whether auto-reload is enabled. Used to confirm funds before sending.
